THE VILLAGE OF HARPER'S CHOICE
There are three
neighborhoods in the Village of Harper's Choice. They are: Longfellow, Swansfield and Hobbit's Glen. Longfellow, the first neighborhood in the village, was named for the American poet, Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow. The name, Hobbit's Glen was taken from the works of J. R. Tolkein. Swansfield's name was inspired by the paintings of James MacNeil Whistler. The entire village was part of Jericho, a
farm once owned by the late Robert Harper Goodloe Carroll. The name was chosen because of his fondness for this particular site. Kahler Hall, the community center, was named for the Kahler family whose farm was located
here. Kahler Hall is the Community Center building for Harper's Choice and is located at 5440 Old Tucker Row. Many community activities take place at Kahler Hall. Classes for adults and children are held
at Kahler Hall. Columbia's children have enjoyed many holiday parties here. Every February the Association sponsors Camp Expo
where representatives from area day and overnight camps are available to talk to both children and parents about summer plans. There are five different rooms available for rent at Kahler Hall. You may have a formal wedding or a casual meeting at Kahler Hall.
Harper's Choice also manages two small Neighborhood Centers;
Swansfield Neighborhood Center at 5601 Cedar Lane and Longfellow
at 5267 Eliot's Oak Road. These small buildings are nursery
schools during the day and at night are perfect for meetings.
The Harper's Choice Voice newsletter appears in the Columbia Flier on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Quarterly, an edition of the Harper's Choice Voice is mailed to each home.
