Protect Your Head

bulletAlways wear a helmet.  In Howard County, it is the law if you are under the age of 16.
bulletThe helmet should be level on your head and cover your forehead.
bulletThe side buckles should rest just below your earlobes.
bulletThe chin strap should fit snugly while the buckle is closed.

See and Be Seen

bulletAlways wear close-fitting light or bright-colored clothing to make you more visible.
bulletIf you must bike at night, wear reflective clothing and use a white front light and a red rear reflector.
bulletBe aware of any obstacles in your path.

Traffic Flow

bulletAlways keep to the right.
bulletBe courteous to pedestrians, they have the right-of-way.
bulletWhen riding in a group, ride in a single file line.
bulletMove off to the side of the path when stopped to avoid blocking traffic.
bulletAlways signal your moves, use both hand and audible signals.

Be Responsible

bulletStay alert at all times.
bulletNever go alone.
bulletTell friends or family where you will be.
bulletFollow the paths and do not bike anywhere that is unfamiliar.
bulletCarry coins or a cell phone for phone calls.
bulletReport suspicious or dangerous behaviors to the police.  Call 911 for emergencies.
